Our morning objective for Friday was a symposium on Afghanistan—including films, discussion, slide shows—by both Afghani photographers and American journalists. The Telluride Mountain Film festival principal organizer is filmmaker David Holbrook, the gangly, amiable, and brilliant son of the late Richard Holbrook. Among the presenters was Afghani photo journalist, Massoud Hossaini , who was born during the Soviet occupation. Here’s his Pulitzer-prize winning photo (most of the kids surrounding the “woman in a green dress” are dead).
Katie Lee is also in town for TMF. She’s a regular spitfire…still going strong in her early 90s. As you probably know, she was an early activist and friend of Ed Abbey. She was on hand for an opening of historical Colorado River photos at the Telluride Gallery of Fine Art. https://www.mountainfilm.org/festival/personalities/katie-lee
