My First Memory of the Colorado River.
Driving cross-country for the first time in 1972, the Grand Canyon was a "must see" on our
itinerary.  So my friend and I left the interstate and drove up Route 160 to the
south rim of the canyon. We got out of the car stretched and started wandering
towards the amazing sunlit canyon. Every step closer to the rim revealed
different layers of geology - and then startling silver ribbon at the bottom of
the canyon-- somehow I was surprised by seeing the river from the top of the
canyon.

The Water of the Colorado River at My Site

Gleaming silver alive -so far away but so compelling

My Story
I realized then and there that I would have to answer the call of
that tiny river. And I have over and over, I have hiked down to the inner gorge
5 times and counting. That's my story!
